May 24, 1974 — Palmerton’s Mike Versuk and Marian’s Dave Linckhorst both advance to the final round of the PIAA golf championships after their play in the first two rounds at Penn State. Versuk shoots 157, firing a 74 in the opening round before carding an 83 in the second. Linckhorst finishes with a 161, putting up scores of 81 and 77, to qualify for the second day. Slatington’s Jeff Jones also competes at states but misses the cut with a 168 (87-81). Versuk will eventually end up in ninth, while Linckhorst places in the top 20.
