A look back: May 24, 1959

Approximately 600 people, representing state local and area police and government groups, paid tribute to Col. Frank G. McCartney, Lansford, newly appointed commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, at a testimonial dinner in Genetti’s Pennsylvania Room, Hazleton.

The man who administered the oath of office to Commissioner McCartney, Judge James C. McCready of the Carbon County Courts, praised the guest of honor, describing him as a man of integrity who knows well the duties of his new position.

Richard D. Edwards, Lansford, lifetime friend of McCartney, presented a sometimes humorous biography of the new commissioner.
