Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call Mark at 570-952-5098.

A Bible study on the book of Revelation will begin on June 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the main Sunday school room.

Library book sale

The Tamaqua Public Library is having a 10 cent book sale until June 1. Stock up on all your summer reading favorites.

Zion Lewistown

Zion Church Lewistown Valley will join Calvary UMC for their 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday for the Memorial Day service.

A covered-dish dinner will be held in the social hall after the service.

Pastor Jim Williams will preach at the Ascension Day Service on May 30 at 7 p.m. at Christ Church McKeansburg.

The high school and college graduates will be honored on June 2, and a congregational meeting will be held after the service.

The basket raffle is scheduled for June 8 at the New England Fire Company from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Donations and baked goods are much appreciated.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford presides at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday worship service, the sixth Sunday of Easter, St. John’s Lutheran Church. Bell Choir practice 8 a.m. Bell Choir recognition during worship. May 29, finance 6:30 p.m. Summer office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 570-668-4570.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. Memorial Day service in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. This will be a combined service with Zion Church, remembering and honoring America’s history and present. The Rev. Jim Williams of Zion Church will give the message “Already, they’re here.” Weather permitting, a portion of the service will be held in the cemetery. Following the service will be a sharing of “carry-in food” in the Zion social hall. Special music will be provided by Calvary/Zion combined choirs. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m. There will be no Sunday evening service. Wednesday prayer meeting at 7 p.m.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met May 16 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 44 members present. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the ready “Live each day.” Sandy Kraipovich was given a warm welcome as a guest this week. Irma Leibensperger was added to the sick list and Nancy Messerschmidt was welcomed back.

Food vouchers will be given out at the Salvation Army on June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Guest speaker Rachel Kapes Timm provided information and activities available at Heritage Hill Senior Community.

There will be a memorial service for deceased members at the May 23 meeting. A picnic lunch will be served after the service.
