Rush Township supervisors approved the following items recently:

• Awarded a $44,188.55 bid to Shiffer of Kunkletown, for road sealing. The other bidder was AMS, Center Valley, at $46,824.05.

• Adopted three new ordinances. One establishes parking regulations, authorized towing and establishes penalties for violations. A second new ordinance defines placement of street signs for hearing and/or visually impaired individuals, and the third sets standards and regulations for application and approval of parking spaces for a person with a disability/disabled veteran. After the meeting, township solicitor Chris Reidlinger said that the new ordinances were done to update old ordinances, as laws regarding those matters have updated as well.

• Set a date for the hearing on the Eastern Schuylkill Regional Planning hearing, which will be 6:45 p.m. June 20, before the regular township monthly meeting. Rush Township is part of a regional comprehensive zoning ordinance and land development group, which also includes Walker and Schuylkill townships and Tamaqua. The committee for the group has approved the plan; now each of the four entities must approve the plan. There will be about $1,000 left in the committee’s budget, on a suggestion by Reidlinger, the supervisors approved sending that money to Bill McMullin, Arro Engineering, the firm instrumental in helping draft the ordinance.
