2019 primary election: Franklin nomination is only contest decided in Lehighton area

A Republican nomination for a six-year term on the Franklin Township Board of Supervisors was the only contest to be decided on Tuesday in the Lehighton area.

Otherwise, there were no contests in East Penn and Mahoning townships, nor Lehighton, Parryville or Weissport boroughs.

Franklin Township

The GOP nomination went to Robin D. Cressley. He defeated Aldo Boni by a vote of 291-271.

Cressley will face Democrat Jody Neifert in the fall. He was unopposed in his party and received 217 token votes.

There were no candidates on either ballot in Franklin Tuesday for a six-year term on the board of auditors.

East Penn Township

There will be a supervisors’ race in the fall in East Penn Township, where Democrat Dennis L. Pearson will face Republican Gary P. Kuehner for the six-year term.

They were unopposed Tuesday and collected 115 and 236 token votes, respectively.

No one appeared on either ballot for a four-year term on the board of supervisors that is up for grabs. There were 18 Democratic write-in votes and 53 Republican write-in votes Tuesday for people trying to win their parties’ nominations. The county’s election board will make a determination on that balloting.

No one ran for any of three auditors’ positions that are scheduled to be filled by township voters. They are for terms of two, four and six years.

Mahoning Township

Only one name appeared on the Mahoning Township ballot on Tuesday.

Republican Robert Slaw was unopposed for his party’s nomination for a six-year term on the board of supervisors and received 412 complimentary votes.

There is also a six-year term on Mahoning’s board of auditors that is to be filled but there were not any candidates.

Lehighton

Two Democrats and two Republicans were the only candidates for four four-year terms on the Lehighton Borough Council.

The Democrats are Grant R. Hunsicker, who received 287 complimentary votes, and William Rodweller, who tallied 200 token votes.

The Republicans are Darryl W. Arner and Lisa Perry, who tallied 278 and 239 token votes, respectively.

Parryville

There were no candidates on Parryville’s municipal ballot Tuesday.

The voters there are expected to fill two four-year terms on the borough council. There were 11 Democratic and 14 Republican write-in votes that will have to be reviewed by the county’s election board to determine if anyone won a nomination.

Weissport

Two Democrats were unopposed for two nominations for four-year terms on the Weissport Borough Council.

Linda Schoenberger and Arland F. Moyer Sr. collected 25 and 23 token votes, respectively.
