May 13, 1972 — Four Lehighton athletes capture first-place honors at the Lehigh Valley League track and field championships. Kevin Seltzer not only wins the triple jump, but sets a new meet record with a distance of 45-3 1/2. Dave Long captures the high jump by clearing 6-2, while Rich Hopstock claims the shot put with a mark of 46-10 1/2. The Indians also receive a first from Larry Armbruster, whose throw of 133-8 in the discus is tops. Slatington’s Walt Roland sets a new meet record in the 2-mile with a time of 10:24, while Palmerton relay team of DeWalt, Graver, Rehrig and Behler wins the 2-mile relay in 8:26.3.
