Local Roundup: Results from May 9

Lehighton posted wins in both baseball and softball action on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Panther Valley swept Shenandoah in a softball doubleheader.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Lehighton used a five-run second inning to gain a 6-3 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.

Chris Whiteman had three hits, including a triple, to pace the Indians (4-15; 1-11). David Berger shut out the Cardinals for the first five innings and earned the win. Lucas Sangiuliano closed out the game for the save.

The winners also received a two-run single from Branden Kocher and one hit by Logan Pagotto.

SOFTBALL

Lourdes-Lehighton

Lehighton closed out its season in grand style, rolling to a 20-0 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.

For the Indians (8-12; 5-9), Cierra Kunkle had a single, double and triple, and also scored three runs and knocked in two.

Becky Serfass added three hits, four runs and an RBI, while Heidi Greene delivered three hits, one a triple, scored two runs and drove in two. Makayla Nothstein also contributed three hits and three runs.

Samantha Gruber allowed two hits and struck out four to gain the win. She also added two hits.

Panther Valley

Panther Valley swept a doubleheader against Shenandoah Valley.

Brenna Beshock tossed a one-hitter as the Panthers cruised to a 14-2 victory in Game 1.

Katrina Horvath had two doubles and a single for PV, while Faith Drumbore and Lyddia Malaska each had a double among their two hits.

The Panthers rolled in the second game, posting a 19-8 win.

Drumbore and Claire Kokinda (triple, two singles) tallied three hits for PV (7-12; 3-10), which scored 15 runs in the third inning. Beshock, Xhulieta Gjoca and Kya Norwood (double) each had two hits apiece.

BOYS LACROSSE

Dallas-Northwestern

Northwestern’s Zach Rosamalia had four goals and an assist, but Dallas pulled out a narrow 12-11 decision over the Tigers.

Cole Norman and Drew Sabo each recorded three goals for Northwestern, while Zach Anderson added a goal and two helpers.
