A look back: May 4, 1961

The Mahoning Valley Fire Company last evening purchased a new firetruck from the American LeFrance Company at an approximate cost of $16,000.

This is the third piece of equipment the company has purchased since its organization less than 10 years ago. Since that time, the volunteer firefighters have also built a new fire hall.

The new piece of equipment will be a 750-gallon pumper with a 750-gallon booster tank. It will have a hose bed carrying 1,800 feet along with double booster reels. The truck will be on an enclosed cab type vehicle mounted on an International chassis.

Delivery is expected to be made within 120 days.
