A Carbon County man, who appeared in the county court on Tuesday afternoon to be placed in a special probation program, instead ended up in the county prison when he tested positive for illegal substances.

Gregory Steven Ross, 32, of Albrightsville, was to be placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He arrested on Aug. 4, 2018, by state police Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.

After he was placed in the program, personnel from the adult probation office informed Judge Steven R. Serfass that they suspected Ross was under the influence of a controlled substance. Serfass then ordered that Ross be immediately tested by probation office personnel.

The result of the test showed the presence of methamphetamine and fentanyl in his system.

Serfass first asked Ross if he had anything to tell him. Ross said no. Then Serfass had probation officer Jillian McGinley report the results of the test.

Serfass then found Ross in contempt of court and ordered him taken into custody by sheriff deputies and placed in the county prison. Ross is scheduled to appear before Serfass on Thursday. Serfass also revoked his prior order placing Ross in the ARD program.
