April 29, 1953 — A sweep in the shot put helps Palmerton pull out a 53-42 Lehigh Valley League track and field victory over Lehighton. The Blue Bombers, coached by Bill Welhelm, collect all nine points in the event. Dick Werkheiser captures first with a throw of 43 feet. Bob Kolnik claims the 220 in a time of 23.5, while the winners also receive firsts from George Perich in the broad jump (19-10 1/2) and Art George in the discus (113-6 1/4). Palmerton also takes the one-mile relay. For the Indians, Dick Dotter wins two events — the 880 and mile.
