A Tamaqua woman was cited twice in one week for driving with a suspended license.

Sabile Bejtullah Mehmeti, 35, of West Broad Street, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended/revoked license on April 7 after she reportedly took a 2009 Dodge van owned by another person and drove away. The van’s owner said she took the keys from his coat pocket without permission. Police had the vehicle listed as stolen through the Schuylkill County Communications Center.

Six days later an officer on patrol at 3:30 p.m. saw Mehmeti driving the van on West Broad Street. When she parked in front of her residence the officer ran her information through county communications to check the status of her license. It was still showing as suspended and there was also an outstanding warrant for her arrest filed by Nesquehoning police.

The officer searched her before taking her into custody and discovered two needles, a green and white pill, a small bag of crushed methamphetamine and a packet stamped with a red skull and “Head Games,” known to contain heroin/fentanyl.

At the police station, as the officer helped Mehmeti out of the car, he discovered the handle on the back door was in pieces. Mehmeti admitted she broke it while trying to open the door so she could hug her boyfriend before going to jail.

She was charged with two counts of driving with a suspended license and one count each of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and institutional vandalism.
