April 18, 1956 — Walter Niehoff claims two events as Lehighton gains a 59-39 Lehigh Valley League track and field win over Palmerton. Niehoff captures the 880 in 2:20 and breaks the tape in the mile, finishing in a time of 5:38.5. The Indians, coached by Ben Jones, receive a first in the broad jump from Tom Shupp, who also ties with Neal Gilbert and Dick Semmel for first in the high jump. Semmel also ties in the pole vfault with Carl Everitt. Other first for Lehighton include Merle Wolfe (100) and Ken Reid (discus). The Bombers receive two firsts from Pete Gulden (220, 440).
