April 12, 2003 — Marian’s Nate Phillips and Chris Gugliemini both earn gold medals at the annual Mount Carmel Track and Field Invitational. Phillips claims the high jump by clearing 6-4, while Gugliemini takes the 400 in a time of 52.47. Three area athletes collect second-place finishes. Tamaqua’s Matt Wagner ends runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 40-8 1/2, while fellow Blue Raider Eileen Gurcsik runs 27.76 in the 200 to place second. Panther Valley’s Becky Lukac also earns silver, throwing 111-9 in the javelin.
