Walnutport won’t be getting a bandshell, at least for the time being.

Borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz informed borough council at a workshop session on Thursday that the Local Share Account funding was released.

“Our grant was denied,” Wentz said. “No bandshell, and I don’t think we’re going to receive a bandshell.”

Wentz said they changed the criteria. The borough’s grant was denied because its request was not deemed a necessity for infrastructure.

Councilman Dave Stankovic shared his thoughts on the matter.

“We need something for the playground,” Stankovic said.

Wentz told council he wouldn’t mind putting in again for the funding for a bandshell through another means.

Council asked for a $125,000 grant for the bandshell and would have budgeted $5,850.
