Lansford council seeks candidate to fill vacancy

Lansford Borough Council is seeking candidates to replace a member who resigned last month.

Joseph Butrie’s term was set to expire at the end of the year, and he wasn’t seeking re-election.

At council’s March meeting, council accepted Butrie’s resignation effective immediately. In a resignation letter, Butrie said he was resigning for health reasons.

Council is now accepting letters from people interested in filling the seat through the end of the year.

Candidates must be a registered voter who has lived in the borough for at least one year.

Letters of interest will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and can be sent to Jill Seigendall, Borough secretary-treasurer, 1 W. Ridge St., Lansford, PA 18232, or emailed to boroughsecretary@windestream.net.

There are four four-year council seats up for grabs in this year’s general election.

Council President Jared Soto is not seeking re-election.

Four Republicans and two Democrats are seeking their party’s nomination for the seats in the May primary.

On the Republican ballot, incumbents Bruce Markovich and John Turcmanovich are joined by William Chuma and Martin S. Ditsky.

The Democrat ballot includes Lou Labosky and Mary Soberick.
