Red flag warning issued for today

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the Poconos from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.

As the day goes on, strong winds and low relative humidity are expected to settle in eastern Pennsylvania and have the potential for enhanced fire spread during that period.

Winds will be steady up to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or are very possible due to a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels.

Any fires that develop may quickly get out of control and become difficult to contain.

Burning of any type is strongly discouraged during red flag warnings.
