Palmerton Council honors athletes

Two Special Olympics athletes were recognized once again in Palmerton for their gold medal achievements during Thursday’s borough council meeting.

Delina Rodrigues attended the World Games in Abu Dhabi in early March, bringing home a gold medal in powerlifting. Her fellow athlete, Matt Anthony, won the Special Olympics National Bowling Championships in Las Vegas, alongside his father, Chris.

With two resolutions, council “recognized and commended” Anthony and Rodrigues for their accomplishments.

“This entire community is very, very proud of you two people,” Council President Terry Costenbader said. “We can’t say enough about you. You put this town on the map.”

“Well, hey, it deserves to be on the map,” Anthony replied.
