A young woman was injured Monday afternoon in a crash along Route 209 in Towamensing Township.

The victim appeared to be traveling north when she allegedly lost control of her car, entering the right berm and impacting with a utility pole. The vehicle caught fire.

Passersby pulled the woman from the burning car and laid her in a nearby field. She was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a local trauma center.

When firefighters from Franklin and Towamensing townships arrived on scene, they found the car fully involved in flames. State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
