Former area athletes honored at Moravian

The Moravian College Department of Athletics & Recreation honored 62 student-athletes Friday afternoon at their annual Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society Luncheon as a kickoff to NCAA Division III Week that runs from April 1-7.

Of the 62, seven are former Times News area athletes.

Chi Alpha Sigma works with NCAA and NAIA member institutions to recognize outstanding college student-athletes for their successes both on the field of competition and in the classroom. To be eligible for Chi Alpha Sigma, student-athletes must be a junior and/or senior with a 3.4 or higher GPA and have earned a varsity letter. The new inductees will receive a certificate a medallion with the seniors also receiving honors cords to wear at graduation in May.

“Greyhound student-athletes have always performed well in the classroom and it is exciting to have an opportunity to recognize these achievements with their induction into Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athletic Honor Society,” stated associate Director of Athletics Renee Hellert. “The amount of dedication these students put forth in both their sport and in the classroom is immeasurable and it is an honor to celebrate their success.”

Those honored from the area include seniors Aaron Hofmann (Northern Lehigh, cross country and track & field), Madison Shaneberger (Pleasant Valley, softball) and Jon Anthony (Palmerton, track & field). Juniors honored include Kole Rodrigues (Palmerton, baseball), Gavin Kemery (Northern Lehigh, cross country and track & field), Rachel Mikols (Northwestern, cross country and track & field) and Vanessa Blose (Northwestern, track & field).
