Lehighton picked up baseball and softball victories on Monday.

BASEBALL

PM West-Lehighton

Zach Crum had three hits and scored a pair of runs to lead Lehighton to a 9-3 non-league victory over Pocono Mountain West in Matt Dierolf first game as head coach of the Indians.

Randy Bonjourno and Logan Wentz both added two hits for Lehighton (1-0).

Wentz was also the winning pitcher. He worked the first three innings, striking out four and allowing one run. Joshua Steigerwalt worked three innings of relief, striking out three and allowing a pair of runs.

Moravian Acad.-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh opened Colonial League play with a 2-0 victory over Moravian Academy.

Luke Eitner went four strong innings to get the pitching win, striking out six.

Brandon Hess and Eitner had two hits apiece to lead the Bulldogs’ offensively. Chase Misera collected the game’s lone RBI.

Tyler Joseph had the Lions’ lone hit.

Palmerton-Palisades

Palmerton’s late inning rally fell short as it dropped a 10-9 Colonial League setback to Palisades.

Ben Serfass led the Bombers’ attack with three singles and two runs scored, while Brock Bollinger followed with a single, a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Tanner Burnett added three runs scored and an RBI.

The game was called due to darkness in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Saucon Vy.-Northwestern

Saucon Valley rallied with a four-run seventh inning to post a 9-6 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

The Tigers opened the game with a three-run first and then held onto a 6-5 lead entering the seventh inning.

Rafe Perich paced the Tigers with three hits, while Nick Henry chipped in with four RBIs.

SOFTBALL

PM West-Lehighton

Lehighton opened the regular season with a 5-2 non-league win over Pocono Mountain West.

The Indians’ Mykayla Engle tossed a complete game three-hitter to record the win on the mound, in which she recorded 15 strikeouts and only allowed one walk.

Becky Serfass led the Indians offense with three singles, a run scored and an RBI, while Heidi Greene added two singles, a run scored and an RBI.

Tamaqua-Kutztown

Caitlyn Lubak’s game-winning RBI-single in the eighth inning lifted Kutztown to a 6-5 non-league win over Tamaqua.

Ally Frederick paced the Blue Raiders with a solo home run and a single. Miranda Chinchar added two singles, a run scored and an RBI. Bryn Clifford chipped in with a single, double and two runs scored.

Trailing 4-3 heading to the seventh inning, Tamaqua rallied to take the lead when Clifford singled and eventually scored on Chinchar hit. Chinchar eventually scored the go-ahead run on passed ball.

But Kutztown tied the game in the bottom of the seventh without a hit before winning it in the eighth.

Notre Dame rolled to a 16-6 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Lauren Hoffman and B. Schuck led the Bulldogs, as both finished with 3-for-4 days at the plate. Katie Yesik added two singles.

Bridget Shields paced the Crusaders with two singles and a home run. Caitlyn Frederick finished with a single and a home run.

Allen-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley easily swept Allen in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference track and field meet.

Ryan Bonser won the 100 and 400, while William Geraghty took the shot put and javelin events as the PV boys cruised to a 107-39 victory.

In the girls meet, the Bears received firsts from 10 different athletes to roll to a 128-8 victory. Armani Dunkley (400, high jump), DeNair Drew (100 hurdles and 300 hurdles) and Madison Wilson (discus, javelin) each had a pair of wins.
