No injuries occurred during a one-car crash after a driver fell asleep Monday afternoon along Route 248 in East Penn Township.

State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred at 4:29 p.m. when the driver, Stevie R. Kates, 49, of Jim Thorpe, dozed off behind the wheel of his 1997 Chevrolet Geo Prizm.

The vehicle then struck the concrete median before spinning off and coming to rest in the right lane of travel.

Neither Kates, nor the passenger, Stevie R. Kates, 23, of Jim Thorpe, were injured during the crash.

Both people were wearing their seat belts.

The driver was charged with a traffic violation.
