Woman injured in two-vehicle crash at Route 209/248 intersection

A woman was injured following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Franklin Township that resulted in the Thomas J. McCall Memorial Bridge being shut down at the Route 209/248 intersection.

Township Police Chief Jason Doll said the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when a black Acura driven by Jill Gallitano, 34, of Mahwah, New Jersey, was traveling from 209 onto the bridge and struck the curb with her passenger side tire, which sent her across the lane and into the front of a tractor-trailer that was stopped at the light.

Doll said Gallitano, who was wearing her seat belt, suffered a minor injury. Her vehicle was totaled after sustaining heavy front-end damage, he said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was also wearing his seat belt and was not injured, Doll said. The tractor-trailer suffered heavy front-end damage and had to be towed away, he said.

Doll said assisting at the scene were the Lehighton Police Department, Franklin Township Fire Company, Lehighton Ambulance and Franklin Township Fire Police.

He said they were on scene for about an hour and 40 minutes.

Doll said the crash remains under investigation.
