March 15, 1950 — Danny Porambo tallies a game-high 11 points to help St. Ann’s of Lansford rally for a 32-29 victory over Girardville to capture the Anthracite Catholic League championship. The Crusaders, coached by Jack McGorry, trail by seven points early in the fourth quarter before mounting their comeback. Jack Sterner’s jumper with 20 seconds to play gives the winners a 30-29 lead, and Porambo comes up with a steal and layup to clinch the title. Sterner and Richie Giantesano both finish with seven points.
