Walker awards $724K road repair project

The Walker Township supervisors awarded an extensive road repair project to Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction of Tamaqua.

Lehigh Asphalt’s bid of $724,824 was the lowest of seven bids submitted by contractors.

Financing for the project, which has been in the planning stages for over a year, had already been secured.

The board also discussed the possibility of appointing a trained professional as an inspector to oversee the work, but no decision was reached before the board went into an executive session.

In other business, the supervisors hired Paul Miller and Nolan Ziegler as part-time road crew employees. Miller will be paid the CDL rate of $17 per hour, and Ziegler will be paid $15 per hour. Both hirings are contingent on the men passing a drug test.

Ben Turrano was appointed as an alternate member of the planning commission. Turrano was selected after the supervisors asked for someone to serve on the commission.
