Man charged with alleged sexual assault of a child

Weatherly Police have charged a man with sexually assaulting a young girl.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Sgt. Michael Bogart of the Weatherly Borough Police Department:

On Jan. 8, a woman reported to Carbon County Children and Youth that her daughter told her that Julian Santiago, 28, unknown address, had assaulted her.

The victim said the incident took place sometime between September 2016 and June 2017 at her house in Weatherly.

A forensic interview for the victim was scheduled on Jan. 9 at the Children’s Advocacy Center/NEPA in Scranton.

During the interview, the victim said they engaged in oral sex and he told her he was going to give her a lollipop and never did.

The victim said that she was in her mother’s room with Santiago when this happened, and that no one else was around and that when it was over, he said to her, “Nope, no lolli.”

Santiago faces charges of rape forcible compulsion; statutory sexual assault; indecent assault person less than 13 years of age; corruption of minors; and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. March 20 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr.
