Oklahoma fugitives caught in Penn Forest

An Albrightsville couple who were fugitives from justice wanted in Oklahoma were arrested Sunday by Fern Ridge State Police.

State police said that Michael Barrett, 45, and Sheila Barrett, 48, were arraigned before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe, and committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail each.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Brendon King of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N Fern Ridge Patrol Unit:

At 11:03 a.m. Sunday, King was dispatched to assist a Tricounty bail bondsman at Shakespeare Drive, Penn Forest Township, with a couple who had active arrest warrants out of Oklahoma.

King made contact with the Barretts. A search showed an active hit out of Oklahoma for both people.

Both were arrested and transported back to Fern Ridge, where they were processed.

The couple faces charges of arrest prior to requisition, having escaped from confinement or having broken the terms of their bail, probation or parole, and have been declared fugitives of justice from Oklahoma.
