Recycling contractor pulls out of Weatherly

Solomon Containers informed Weatherly borough officials that the firm will no longer collect recyclables in the borough effective April 1.

The company cited the market for recyclable materials for the decision. Borough council instructed residents to put recyclables with garbage as borough officials secure another recycling firm. The current contract expires on March 31.

In other business, the borough council approved payment of bills totaling $243,386 for the period Jan. 31, 2019, to Feb. 21, 2019. It also gave the Recreation Committee approval to use Eurana Park for the town’s Easter egg hunt to be held on April 7.

Mayor Tom Connors thanked council and borough officials for their cooperation with the Polar Plunge which was held on Feb. 16. He presented a check in the amount of $1,500 to representatives from the Weatherly Ambulance Association, the beneficiary of the fundraising event. Connors, who organized the event with his wife, Michele, also thanked Faith Assembly of God Church in Hazle Township which donated $398 to bring the total donation to $1,500.
