Custody dispute in Coaldale turns violent

A Coaldale woman is in the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville, following a domestic assault in Coaldale on Jan. 25.

Borough police were called to a home in the 200 block of West Howard Avenue at 7:41 p.m. for a domestic case involving a weapon. They spoke with the male victim, who said Irene Attiyeh, 30, had attacked him with a kitchen knife and threatened to kill him after they were arguing about a custody issue. Both of his hands sustained cuts, which he said happened when he tried to stop her and take away the knife.

Attiyeh admitted grabbing the knife and attacking the victim after he told her they were through as a couple and he wanted custody of his son.

She was arraigned before duty District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats and harassment. Bail was set at $50,000.
