Several charged in home burglaries

Pocono Mountain Regional Police have charged five people in home invasion incidents in A Pocono Country Place community.

Charged are Christopher Babbino, 20, Barrington Perry, 19, Robert Roe-Laverty, 24, and Jessica Echevarria, 36, all of Tobyhanna, and Michael Benson, 21, of Albrightsville.

Police said the case dates back to October of last year. They are crediting media sources with helping to identify the defendants by airing surveillance video.

On Oct. 13 at 11:01 p.m., police were called to a residential burglary in progress in the 8900 block of Deerfield Drive, Coolbaugh Township, where the owner said several men kicked in his front door but fled the scene after looking inside the home.

Police said home security footage (video) of the incident showed four men outside the residence, one carrying a shotgun. One of the intruders delivered a “mule kick” to forcibly open the door.

Police said they received calls relating to other forcible entries at residences in the development. They said seven additional burglaries or burglary attempts were committed the same night by the same people. The residences are located in the 7000 block of Vista Drive, 7100 block of Mountain Drive, 600 block of Country Place Drive, 700 block of Country Place Drive, 700 block of Country Place Drive, 8200 block of Natures Drive and 8500 block of Bumblebee Way.

It was learned Roe-Laverty was a fugitive from justice and had a bench warrant in Monroe County. Police said they were also able to obtain an arrest warrant for Perry for possessing a stolen vehicle which was located at his residence in the 8400 block of Bear Trail, Tobyhanna.

Police said they took Roe-Laverty and Babbino into custody while attempting to elude police on Oct. 18. When arrested, they had two handguns and stolen property in their possession. During the investigation, police interviewed Echevarria, who identified herself as the girlfriend of Babbino. Police said she lied and gave an alibi in an attempt to protect Babbino from his involvement in the burglaries.

Babbino was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, possession of an instrument of crime and prowling or loitering at night in connection with the burglary in the block of 8900 Deerfield Drive; and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit multiple criminal objectives, receiving stolen property, hindering apprehension or prosecution, possession of an instrument of a crime and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection with a burglary at Chipmunk Drive.

Benson was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, persons not to possess firearms, possession of an instrument of crime and loitering or prowling at night in connection with the burglary in the 8900 block of Deerfield Drive.

Perry was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, possession of an instrument of crime and prowling or loitering at night in connection with the burglary in the block of 8900 Deerfield Drive; and charged with receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the burglary in the 8400 block of Bear Trail.

Roe-Laverty was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, persons not to possess firearms, possession of an instrument of crime and loitering or prowling at night in connection with the burglary in the 8900 block of Deerfield Drive; and charged with persons not to possess firearms, criminal conspiracy to commit multiple criminal objectives, receiving stolen property, hindering apprehension or prosecution, possession of an instrument of crimes and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection with the burglary on Chipmunk drive.

Echevarria was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.
