Tamaqua teen chosen to sing in NYC

Olivia Stettler, 16, of Tamaqua was chosen to sing in a cabaret with teens from the Broadway Community.

The performance will be at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City on Feb. 17.

Olivia has been performing in local theater since she was 9. She has performed in more than 35 shows, earning her a Majestic Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress for her portrayal of JoJo in “Seussical the Musical” at Tamaqua Area High School and a NEPTA nomination for Outstanding Teen Actress for her portrayal of Princess Winifred in “Once Upon a Mattress.”

She has been taking voice lessons from Joelle Witner since she was 7. She holds several vocal awards including the 2018 Talent Explosion overall high scoring vocalist award, and earlier this month was one of only seven singers chosen to take a master song interpretation workshop with Broadway actor Anthony Rapp, who is known for his portrayal of Mark in “Rent” and Charlie Brown in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” as well as movies such as “Dazed and Confused” and television’s “Star Trek.”

Olivia is a junior at Marian Catholic High School, where she is a member of chorus, Drama Club and Rock Music Ministry. This will be her ninth year singing on the Carbon/Tamaqua cancer telethon.

She is currently a youth representative at the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts, and in September, she will be directing the musical “Peter Pan Jr.” at the Center Stage Theatre in Tamaqua.

Olivia is the daughter of Charles and Heather (Lawson) Stettler of Tamaqua and the granddaughter of Lionel and Kathleen Lawson of Bethany Beach, Delaware (formerly from Tamaqua), and Charles Stettler Sr. of Wilkes-Barre.
