Man charged with scam found in Pottsville

After receiving multiple tips from the public on the whereabouts of fugitive Robert W Scifo Jr., deputies from the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Pottsville City Police Department located Scifo at his West Norwegian Street, Pottsville, address and took him into custody.

Scifo will be housed at the Schuylkill County Prison pending his return to Monroe County. Once in Monroe County a bail hearing will be scheduled.

Scifo will face a jury trial sometime in the near future.

Scifo, owner of the now-defunct Crown Food Carts was scheduled for trial on Tuesday, after charges were filed for scamming 19 people in Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, New Jersey, New York and Iowa.

Scifo failed to appear for his trial, and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Officials say between November 2016 and October 2017, Scifo collected $51,227.83 from 19 consumers and then either delivered less than what was ordered, or in many cases collected deposits and delivered nothing at all. People said they paid for food carts or related parts and either received nothing or products that represented a fraction of the value ordered.

On Nov. 1, 2017, charges were filed on behalf of six consumers or businesses.

On Feb. 27, 2018, additional charges were filed.

Consumers have continued to file complaints, and Scifo is facing additional charges.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office thanks the members of the public who called with information on Scifo and would also like to thank the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department and the Pottsville City Police Department for the professional and rapid assistance they provided into quickly getting Scifo into custody.
