A look back: Feb. 4, 1996

Members of the Hometown Fire Company honored Michael Cappos for his 40 years of service to the company during a gathering in the fire company hall.

George Pinkey, Rush Township supervisor and a fire police officer with the company, opened the program, speaking about all volunteer firefighters but then focusing on the guest of honor, presenting him a “golden spatula” for all of the cooking he has done over the years for the benefit of the fire company.

Fire Police Chief Paul Miller presented Cappos with a plaque recognizing his combined 40 years of service to the fire company and fire police.

Cappos joined the fire company in 1955 and remained active until moving over to the fire police unit about five years ago.
