Tamaqua district court

The majority of preliminary hearings scheduled before District Judge Stephen Bayer on Jan. 22 were waived directly to the county court level. One defendant failed to show for his hearings.

Failure to appear

Jose Lopez

, 41, of McAdoo, was due in court to answer to charges in two cases. McAdoo Police Chief Jeff Wainwright charged Lopez with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on July 10, 2018, and again on July 23, 2018.

When Lopez failed to come to court, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Waived hearings

Defendants who waived their hearings included:

Ashley M. Sist

, 32, of Hazleton, was charged with access device fraud, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property by McAdoo patrolman William Curilla. The charges stem from a Sept. 22, 2018, case. Sist was also charged with harassment by McAdoo patrolman Anthony Divirgilio on Nov. 19, 2018.

She was released on her own recognizance in both cases.

Keagan David Williams

, 18, of Beaver Meadows, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia by McAdoo patrolman Curilla. The charges were filed in connection with a Nov. 4, 2018, case.

Williams was released on his own recognizance.

Luis Rivera-Walker

, 37, of Freeland, faces charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with an obstructed window. The charges were filed by McAdoo patrolman Curilla after an Oct. 6, 2018, traffic stop.

Rivera-Walker was released on his own recognizance.

Ariel Stevens

, 21, of Coaldale, was charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, three felony counts of conspiracy, three felony counts of criminal use of a communication facility, and three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. The charges were filed by Coaldale patrolman Kirk Schwartz in connection with a July 12, 2018, case.

She was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.

James Englert

, 42, of Barnesville, was charged with criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance by Coaldale Patrolman James Bonner. The charges were filed after a Dec. 23, 2018, incident.

Englert was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Judy Marie Petrosky

, 45, of Hazleton, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and permitting an unlicensed driver to drive. The charges were filed by Kline Township patrolman Justin Farley after a Sept. 5, 2018, incident.

Bail was originally set at $25,000 straight but was modified to $1.

Jeffrey Frable

, 51, of Coaldale, was charged with aggravated assault, harassment and simple assault by Coaldale patrolman Anthony Houser on May 5, 2018.

He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Eric Mahan

, 34, of Tamaqua, had charges of strangulation, aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and reckless endangerment dismissed.

Andrew Evans

, 30, of Tamaqua had a charge of passing a bad check withdrawn.
