A look back: Jan. 19, 1982

Members of the food service section of the 165th Military Police Battalion, Lehighton, competed for the Phillip Connelly Award, a national honor given in recognition of the most outstanding food service facility of all reserve units in the country.

The local unit represented Pennsylvania for the award, with the evaluation being performed by several officers from various posts in the northeastern U.S.

The local guardsmen were evaluated on preparation of the meal under adverse conditions. All preparations were performed with field ranges and other portable field food service equipment in a “mess” tent erected being the Bridge Street armory.
