Supervisor resigns from East Penn board

The East Penn Township board of supervisors is starting 2019 by looking for a new member.

The supervisors met for their reorganization meeting Monday night and learned that board member Steven C. Heckman had resigned from his position.

The board voted 3-0 to accept his resignation, with Deanna Cunfer absent.

They are currently seeking a replacement.

Heckman served since 2015. He stated in his letter that it was a pleasure to serve on the board, and that he hopes it can continue to move the township in the right direction.

He said he was proud to help with the community’s recycling program, road repairs and retaining a strong group of township employees.

“Our most valuable asset is our employees, you all need to remember that they are truly what make East Penn Township what it is, a great place to live, work and play,” Heckman wrote.

Heckman also encouraged the board to put aside their personal agendas and focus on making the township better for everyone.

His fellow supervisors agreed to seek letters of intent from residents interested in filling Heckman’s term, which expires at the end of the year.

Letters must be submitted by Jan. 22. Interviews will take place at a public meeting on Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the East Penn Community Center, 403 Blue Mountain Road, Ashfield.

In other business, the board accepted the resignation of Treasurer Susan Rhoads-Procina, who served in the position for less than a year. They agreed to appoint Bill Donovan, the current Weissport Borough treasurer, to fill the position.

Reorganization

The board held its annual reorganization meeting, reappointing William G. Schwab as chairman and John Strockoz as vice chairman.

Monthly meetings will be held the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., except in September, when it will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The board agreed to give a 2.75 percent raise to its nonunion employees, the same amount which is due to union employees under their contract.

The board reappointed Jillyann Sterling as township secretary, Brandon Bradford as roadmaster, and Lora L. Nothstein as community center administrator.

The board appointed Carbon Engineering as township engineer. Former engineer Hanover Engineering Associates Inc. will remain on for projects it started.

The board appointed Lehigh Valley Inspection Services as the zoning officer and building code official.

The board reappointed Robert S. Frycklund as solicitor and Jason Rapa as assistant solicitor.

Berkheimer and Associates will remain as tax collector for earned income, local services and delinquent per capita taxes.
