December 28, 1989 — Jeff Pleban scores a team-high 16 points to lead Weatherly to a 57-47 victory over Northwest in the championship game of the Ed Gayeski Memorial Tournament. Pleban also receives MVP honors as the Wreckers, coached by Tony Antizonni, hand the Rangers their first defeat in the 21-year history of the tournament. Pleban tallies 11 points during the first half to give his team a 28-19 advantage. Dave Jemo helps seal the win, netting six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. The winners also receive nine points from Chris Mrozinsky.
