Woman is seriously injured in Monroe crash

An Altoona woman was seriously injured in a one-vehicle DUI crash at 1 a.m. Dec. 12 at the intersection of Brick Church Road and Hamilton Road South in Hamilton Township.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said Wanda L. Ott, 33, was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, by West End EMS personnel. Police said she suffered injuries to her head, neck, legs and chest.

Police said she was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee south on Hamilton Road South when she swerved to avoid striking a deer in the roadway. The Jeep struck a guide rail and rolled over into the embankment approximately 20 feet off the right side of the road.

The vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Police said the woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance.
