W. Penn to talk water extraction issues on Dec. 18

The West Penn Township Water Resource and Planning Steering Committee and planning commission will meet Dec. 18 to discuss issues identified in the water extraction attorney’s report.

Township solicitor Paul J. Datte said at last week’s board of supervisors meeting that a conference call with the water extraction attorney would be appropriate.

At the board’s Nov. 19 meeting, it was stated that it could take several months until the township’s draft water extraction ordinance is released to the public.

At that time, residents asked when the public would be able to see the options from the water extraction attorney, Curtin & Heefner LLP, on Task No. 2.

Datte said at that meeting he wasn’t comfortable discussing the matter because, “it’s potential litigation.”

Datte said the report “is not going to be released to the public until we analyze it.”

Datte said once the township feels it’s doing it right, is confident on the issues and the board takes action, that’s when the report will be made public.
