Lehighton to host second annual Christmas Caroling

Up for some sweet-sounding melodies to get you in the holiday spirit?

The second annual Lehighton Christmas Caroling Night will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Organized by the Lehighton Borough Parks & Recreation Board, groups scheduled to participate include the Lehighton Fire Department, Lehighton Police Department, Lehighton Downtown Initiative, Lehighton Area Pool Pals, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, The Pale Moon Players, BWC Lehighton, and Lehighton Area Girl Scouts.

Any other groups who would like to participate are more than welcome, according to Autumn Abelovsky, secretary of the board.

“They don’t have to be an organized committee,” Abelovsky said. “A group of friends or family are also encouraged to participate.”

Abelovsky explained the impetus behind the event.

“This event was started last year after several groups of community based organizations got together and brainstormed new ideas to reach out to the residents and boost not only the Spirit of the Season but the Spirit of Lehighton,” she said. “This is a nice way to reach some residents who may not be able to get out and about during the cold and snowy holidays and boost their holiday cheer.”

Abelovsky said borough residents who would like a group of carolers to stop by their home — similar to the Halloween Trick-or-Treating Night — are simply asked to turn on their front porch light as a sign for the carolers to stop by.

“We have some amazing groups of singers who belt out the classics, and then we have some groups who may not boast the best voices, but are having a blast,” she said. “You never know which type of group will stop by your house, but no matter what, it will be enjoyable.”

Anyone interested in caroling may call Abelovsky at 610-730-0041 so that the board can designate a section of town for them.

She said groups meet at the Pfc. Houser Building at 5:45 p.m. Hot beverages and cookies are provided after the night of caroling.
