Corps to honor Nesquehoning subscriptions

Lehighton Ambulance will honor Nesquehoning’s current subscriptions until they expire in May, officials said Wednesday.

Borough councilwoman Rosemary Porembo told her colleagues that after speaking with Lehighton Ambulance as Nesquehoning Ambulance prepares to disband next month, she has further details to help residents better understand what to expect with ambulance coverage.

In September, Nesquehoning Ambulance announced that it would be disbanding and would no longer be the borough’s BLS provider, effective Dec. 23, citing dwindling volunteers as one of the reasons it can no longer serve the borough. The ambulance corps is manned by volunteers, which currently stands at only five.

Porembo said that through discussions with Lehighton Ambulance, which will serve as the borough’s ALX and BLS provider, residents who paid for subscriptions will be covered under the Nesquehoning Ambulance payment until May 2019.

In April, Lehighton Ambulance will send out subscription notices that will cover residents from June 1 through Feb. 29, 2020 at a prorated rate of $50 per household or $35 for an individual.

Porembo said that household subscriptions will cover those living in the house, as well as those who are visiting the home and fall ill or get hurt.

A regular subscription for ambulance services in 2020 will carry a fee per household of $65 and $45 for an individual.

Porembo said that letters to residents further explaining the transition of services will be sent out soon.
