Carbon animal shelter running special on adoption rates

Beginning Monday, Carbon County Friends of Animals are hoping to entice some cat lovers to bring a little Christmas cheer to a feline waiting for a family with special adoption rates for the month.

The Jim Thorpe shelter announced that it would be running a Christmas special from Dec. 3 through Jan. 3.

The adoption rate for adult cats and kittens will be $40; while senior cats and felines that have resided at the shelter for three years or more will be available for $20.

The shelter said most kittens are spayed or neutered, and all cats are up to date on their vaccinations.

To apply for an adoption, you must first fill out a pre-adoption form, which should be dropped off at the shelter. It may take up to 48 hours for approval.

For more information on CCFOA, to see adoptable felines or the shelter’s wish list, visit www.ccfoa.info; or visit the shelter at 77 W. 13th St., Jim Thorpe, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily except Dec. 9, when the shelter will close at 2 p.m. and Dec. 12, when it will close at 3 p.m. The shelter will also be closed Christmas Day.

In other CCFOA matters, the shelter is hosting a number of activities and fundraisers this month.

• A self-guided tour at the Harry Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe will benefit CCFOA from 4 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 12. Participants are asked to bring a monetary donation or item from the shelter’s wish list for entry.

• Photos with Santa will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 15 and 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the shelter. Children and pets are welcome. All proceeds from the event benefit the shelter.

• CCFOA volunteers will host their annual Christmas event at the Carbon Plaza Mall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15 and 16. They will hold a Chinese auction and candy sale outside Giant inside the mall.
