Lehighton school board

Lehighton Area School District’s board of directors took the following action Monday night:

• Approved a $250 bid on property map number 55A-50-B52 and a $755 bid on property map number 84E-35-A12. Both were in the county’s repository for unsold properties.

• Approved occupational tax refunds for 2017 to Elda Walsh for $122.50 and James Walsh for $122.50.

• Approved the continued use of previous board approved purchasing cooperatives.

• Authorized the business office to open new accounts at TD Bank as recommended by the finance committee.

• Approved two employees to attend the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in February at a cost not to exceed $1,750.

• Approved an employee to attend the 2019 PDE Data Summit at the Hershey Lodge in March at a cost not to exceed $1,100.

• Approved four employees to attend the 36th U.S. All Star Track and Field and Cross Country Clinic at the Tropicana Hotel in December at a cost not to exceed $1,000.

• Approved an employee to attend the 52nd Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association Conference in Hershey in March at a cost not to exceed $1,050.

• Authorized the business administrator and treasurer to pay any district bills in their discretion without further board authorization until its next regular meeting due to the extended period between meetings over the holiday season. Any bills shall come before the board for ratification at its first regular meeting thereafter.

• Approved the purchase of an ESGI 12-month license for kindergarten at a cost not to exceed $1,272.

• Hired Elizabeth Harris, lunch aide, $8.50 per hour; Alyssa Bachman, full-time paraprofessional, $15,644; Karen Geiger, lunch aide, $8.50 per hour; Mary Dennis, lunch aide, $8.50 per hour; and Nicole Sharrow, special education teacher, $43,850.

• Accepted the resignation of Alyssa Bachman, part-time paraprofessional; and Karen Geiger, part-time cleaner.

• Authorized the superintendent to approve all school journeys, use of facilities requests and professional course requests until the next regular meeting due to the extended period between meetings over the holiday season.

• Acknowledged Kathleen Brady, St. Joseph’s University, as a student teacher for the spring semester.
