Monroe teacher charged with more sexual assaults

A teacher at a behavioral school in Monroe County, has been charged with addition sexual assault counts.

State police at Stroudsburg said Jonathan Smith, 27, of Blakeslee, who is a teacher at the Pennsylvania Treatment and Healing School, has been charged with additional criminal counts including institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault and corruption of minors. The new charges were filed on Nov. 15.

On Oct. 24 troopers charged Smith with institutional sexual assault and related counts. He was arraigned on the charges and is currently an inmate in the county prison in Snydersville.

Smith is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday before District Judge Brian Germano. Troopers said the arrest was the result of an investigation into reported indecent contact with students at the school.

Troopers said the victims included five female students, ages of 17, 16, two 14 and one 13 years of age. Two of the victims are from Tobyhanna, and one each from East Stroudsburg, Albrightsville and Bushkill.
