I-81 crash detour causes travel delays

A crash of a tractor-trailer at a construction zone on Interstate 81 near McAdoo at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday resulted in detours that tied up traffic and caused travel delays in Rush, Ryan and Kline townships all afternoon and into evening. All northbound I-81 traffic was diverted onto Route 54, causing eastbound traffic to back up from the Vulcan Hill near Mahanoy City to Hometown. Route 309 northbound traffic backed up from Hometown to the McAdoo I-81 ramp. The detour was in effect during peak hours of the Hometown Farmers Market, compounding the traffic woes. Minor injuries were reported in the crash. DONALD R. SERFASS/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
