Summit Hill man jailed on assault charges

A 37-year-old Summit Hill man was arraigned and jailed after police were summoned on Saturday night when he allegedly assaulted a woman in their residence.

Christopher Serrano, of the 100 block of East White Street, is charged by police with strangulation, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. Following arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, he was lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning.

Police said they were called to the residence at 8:40 p.m. for an active domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, police said, they spoke to the victim, who said Christopher confronted her in her bedroom about an ongoing issue, at which time he became violent and began to throw the woman around, punching her and using his hands to cover her mouth and nose so that she was unable to breathe.

Police said they observed red marks around the woman’s neck, a cut on her right hand and a contusion of the upper left forehead area.

Police said they took Christopher into custody and read him his Miranda rights, after which time the man refused to provide a written statement to the investigating officer.
