Crashes investigated

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers in recent days.

• A three-vehicle crash was reported at 8:11 p.m. Oct. 26 along Route 115 in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said vehicles operated by Gianluca F. Hagman, 23, of Kunkletown, James T. Parisi, 43, of Kresgeville, and Dylan M. Veltri, 24, of Bethlehem, were all southbound. Veltri began to slow down and then stopped for traffic ahead of him. Parisi also began to slow down and stop behind Parisi. Hagman became distracted and the front of his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix hit the rear of Parisi’s 2001 Ford Escape, which then struck the rear of Veltri’s 2001 Dodge Ram 2500.

Hagman had a cut to the forehead and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. No one else was injured. Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder Fire Company volunteers assisted at the scene. The Pontiac and the Ford were towed from the scene.

Troopers cited Hagman for driving at a unsafe speed.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 6 along Barry S Road in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said the operator of a Buick Rainer lost control of the vehicle with it leaving the roadway on the right side and striking a tree. The driver ran from the scene.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:49 p.m. Nov. 9 along Ross Road in Ross Township. David T. Opperman, 76, of Pen Argyl, was driving a 2001 Toyota Avalon northbound when he lost control. The vehicle entered the southbound lane, then onto the berm and the front left quarter panel hit the tree. The vehicle then spun clockwise and came back onto the road where it came to rest in the northbound lane.

Opperman was injured and taken by West End ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono, in East Stroudsburg, The vehicle was towed.

Opperman was for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:23 p.m. on Nov. 10 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Louis J. Difazio, 69, of West Harrison, New York, was driving a 2011 Toyota RAV4 northbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. Difazio applied his brakes but the vehicle struck the deer. Difazio and his passenger, Rosita Difazio, 60, same address, were not injured. The Toyota was towed.

• Another crash involving a deer was reported at 7:08 a.m. Nov. 11 on Route 903. Thomas P. Staruch, 54, of Lansford, was driving a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek southbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. Staruch did not see the deer and he hit it. Staruch was not injured but the Subaru was towed from the scene.
