Delone Catholic sweeps Panther Valley

READING - Delone Catholic swept Panther Valley 25-11, 25-23, 25-17 in the PIAA Class 2A volleyball quarterfinals on Saturday at Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. 

The Panthers (21-2) rallied in the second set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead on the strength of three aces from Jenna Dubosky, who finished with 15 assists, eight kills and three digs. 

Panther Valley held a lead of 20-19 late in the second before the Squires (23-3) went ahead 23-22 and held on to close out the set for a 2-0 lead to take control of the match. 

“They’re fighters,” Panther Valley head coach Nancy Filer said of her team. “They didn’t want to stop. They did fight, and they didn’t want to stop.” 

Erika Dubosky had 10 kills, five digs, two assists and one block for the Panthers, while Olivia Dacey added seven digs and six kills. Sarah Zabroski dished out 10 assists and tallied three digs. 

Maddie Clabaugh paced District 3 champion and 2017 state runner-up Delone Catholic with 12 kills. Brooke Lawyer (seven kills) and Emily Miller (six kills) also contributed to the attack. Molly Raville was stellar setting up the offense, tallying 25 assists. 

The Squires also got big performances on defense from Lauren Trummer and Hannah Wells, who recorded 25 and 12 digs, respectively. 

Panther Valley captured a Schuylkill League title this season and a third straight District 11 crown. 

Delone Catholic will face the winner of the New Hope Solebury-Holy Redeemer match Tuesday in the semifinals.
