Carbon railroad society hosts fall show

The 2018 Fall Train Meet of the Carbon Model Railroad Society drew a steady stream of model train and railroad enthusiasts to the bingo hall of the Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport this past weekend.

The meet featured model and toy trains, books, railroadiana, private collections, operating layouts and dealers as well as refreshments and door prizes.

Dealers, private collectors and clubs filled the 90 tables in the hall with a wide variety of railroad related items for sale.

One large display near the entrance called “Circus Rose” created by Sheldon Endy a member of Circus Model Builders and the Carnival Historical Society featured a model train display with the focal point on a 1936 circus unloading scene.

Garry Mack, president of the Carbon Model Railroad Society, said the fall train meet is a fundraiser for the society, based at a retired chapel in Bowmanstown with about 2,000 square feet of model railroading.

In addition to this fall train meet, the society will also be holding a holiday open house at its Bowmanstown location at 529 Ore St. from 7 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and 13, and Jan. 3, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 24 and 25 and Dec. 1, 2, 8 and 9 and Jan.5 & 6,.
