Assistant secretary resigns in S. Hill

A new assistant borough secretary will be needed in Summit Hill.

Amber Shemansik of Summit Hill, who held the position since September 2016, announced her resignation to the borough effective Nov. 30.

The council accepted her resignation with regret, and one member, David Wargo, said he would welcome her back if ever the opportunity arose.

This was the second time she served as assistant secretary. Previously, she held the job for several years and resigned in 2012.

The council agreed to advertise for the position, noting it is part-time with 25 hours per week except when the secretary-treasurer is off. Then the job calls for working more hours.

Although no salary figure was mentioned, the 2019 proposed budget lists the wage at $11 per hour. That figure could be changed depending on experience or qualifications.

Council member Debra Ranck said she feels the starting salary should be minimum wage during the probation period.

In an unrelated matter, the council agreed to grant an extension to Stony Lonesome Excavating to complete work on the Ginder Field. The extension is until Jan. 4, 2019.

The November meeting of the borough council will be held at 7 p.m. Mon. 19.

The meeting is usually held the fourth Monday of each month but was changed until the third Monday during November and December because of Thanksgiving and Christmas, respectively.
