Tamaqua man gets up to 6 years in strangulation, assault case

A Tamaqua man charged with beating a woman in July will spend up to six years in state prison.

David J. Brode, 28, was charged by borough police with strangulation, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment on July 14.

Schuylkill County Judge John E. Domalakes accepted Brode’s guilty plea to unlawful restraint, simple assault and reckless endangerment. The remaining charges were dropped.

He sentenced Brode to one to two years in state prison on the restraint charge; nine to 24 months each on the assault and endangerment charges.

Domalakes made the sentences consecutive to those from two previous cases, bringing the total sentence to two and a half to six years.

According to police reports, officers were called to a house on North Nescopec Street at 3:34 a.m. July 14.

The victim told them Brode had repeatedly punched her in the face after she went to his apartment to check on him. She said he dragged her from room to room, by the hair, and placed her against the wall in a choke hold until she passed out.
